PGM - Professional Role-Playing Game Master

The Professional Game Master (PGM) will run regular role-playing game sessions with clients, at various client locations, typically in recreational and entertainment settings or other settings depending on client demand. The PGM may need to teach new players how to play the applicable role-playing games. Our client demand is absolutely outstripping our capacity to keep up. We need 2-3+ more qualified and trained professional game masters that are very experienced AND well trained as tabletop, electronic, and/or live-action role-playing game masters ASAP.

  • We work with a wide range of populations in a broad variety of setting, including birthday parties, company parties, corporate retreats, conventions, and many others
  • Even our non-therapeutic programs that are just recreation and entertainment focused are still heavily NCTRC standards driven.
  • There are a lot of requirements we need you to meet for this distinctive and rewarding position, so please pay careful attention to the details.

 

STARTING HOURS: During probationary period 0-4 hours per week (no guaranteed hours, but generally we will only hire you if you can begin working at least 4 hours per week).

* Probationary period for creation/entertainment professional game masters is 180 days, at the end of which, if your review numbers are favorable, you will gradually be provided opportunities to increase your hours up to 40 hours per week over time, depending on how well your skills and areas of focus fit various client demands. For example different populations ranging from ages 5-17, 18-65, 65+, or special needs populations, educational settings, or therapeutic settings.

* MAXIMUM HOURS: Potential over time for full time up to 40 hours per week maximum. Potential to be promoted to full time based on employee qualifications, performance reviews over time (typically every 6 months), client contracts, and matching client needs.

PAYMENT FREQUENCY: Initially once per month on the 5th of each month. May become more frequent later.

WAGE: $20-$30+ per hour based on experience, certifications, performance evaluations, and client contract agreements.

START DATE: January, May, August, or October depending on your availability and client contract agreements.

REQUIRED (NON-NEGOTIABLE):

  • MINIMUM 5 YEARS GAME MASTER EXPERIENCE WITH TABLETOP ROLE-PLAYING GAMES.
  • MUST BE ABLE TO WORK IN THE GREATER EASTERN WASHINGTON & NORTHERN IDAHO AREAS, INITIALLY SPOKANE, LATER INLAND NORTHWEST, AND LATER GREATER NORTHWEST (WA, ID, OR, MT). Some remote work may be available, but must be able to work in the area at least 25% of the time.
  • MUST HAVE OWN TRANSPORTATION
  • MUST PASS COMPREHENSIVE BACKGROUND CHECK BEFORE WORK BEGINS

Reports to: Program Director

DESCRIPTION: The Professional Game Master (PGM) will run regular role-playing game sessions with clients, at various client locations, typically in recreational and entertainment settings or other settings. The PGM may need to teach new players how to play the applicable role-playing games. Some games may be remote, but candidate must be able to work at least 50% of the time locally.

 

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare to run role-playing game sessions (RPG).
  • Provide prepared player character sheets for players, including pregenerated when appropriate, or else helping them create their own during "session 0".
  • Run RPG sessions for clients, including children, adults, and seniors, from a wide range of populations.
  • Run anywhere from 1-6 players per session.
  • Sessions typically last around 3 hours, with 30 minutes setup/preparation before session, and 30 minutes post-session clean up and documentation (typically 4 hours paid per session).
  • Transportation costs are not provided, though reimbursement for miles to/from client sites (only) may be reimbursed through your own tax deductions with state and IRS, based on IRS guidelines. Options to carpool with other staff may also be an option.
  • Complete time sheets in timely fashion.
  • Comply with facilities standards
  • Optional remote sessions may be available, but PGM must be available locally at least 50% of the time.
  • Sessions will vary from mostly 1-shots to ongoing campaigns recurring weekly or every-other week.
  • Prepare adventures in accordance with our Codes of Conduct, Professional Standards, Rules and Guidelines, Documentation, Established Protocols & Methodologies.
  • Follow standard APIED/R standards.
  • Follow RPG Therapeutics LLC standards of practice
  • Provide and gather player assessment forms and enter into journal system
  • Complete GM assessment forms.
  • Complete/score participant assessment forms.
  • Address any group interpersonal issues, and maintain players compliance with Player Code of Conduct.


EDUCATION, TRAINING, & EXPERIENCE

  • Required: At least 1 year experience working with at-risk populations
  • Require: English language fluency
  • Preferred: At least 1 year experience working with other special needs populations
  • Preferred: At least 1 year experience working with senior adult populations
  • Required minimum 5 years D&D 5th Edition or BECMI DM experience
  • Prefer RPG Therapeutics LLC certified game masters, or RPG Research trained game masters.
  • Prefer at least 5 years experience with The One Ring RPG Loremaster experience
  • Prefer at least 3 year No Thank You Evil Guide experience
  • Prefer at least 5 year experience with Doctor Who RPG GM experience
  • Prefer at least 2 year experience with Adventures in Middle-earth RPG DM experience
  • Prefer at least 10 years experience with other non-D&D game systems.
  • Prefer American Sign Language (ASL) proficiency
  • Prefer Spanish language proficiency

 

Optional But Worth Noting In Application

  • 10+ years overall game master experience in wide range of settings.
  • Other RPG Related certifications/training.
  • Recreation /event management training/certification.
  • Other languages proficiency


Ideal Candidate (Not required, but dream candidate for highest wages)

  • 20+ years experience as GM for RPG, and certified RPG Professional.
  • 10+ years experience as GM for LARP, and certified RPG Professional.
  • 10+ years experience as GM for ERPG and certified RPG Professional.

Game Master will frequently work at client sites or other locations including but not limited to:

  • Company HQ in Spokane, WA
  • Community centers

  • Care facilities
  • Mobile Facilities such as the RPG Trailer, RPG Bus, etc., at various locations
  • Some optional remote work over HIPAA compliant encrypted Internet platforms.
