The Therapeutic Recreation Specialist Game Master (TRSGM) will run regular role-playing game sessions with clients, at various client locations, typically in educational and therapeutic settings or other settings that have populations with special needs requirements. Game Master for Role-Playing Games Level 1 Certification Candidate start part-time, potential full-time depending on performance employee.

WAGE: $20-$60 per hour based on qualitifications, experience, certifications, performance evaluations, and client contract agreements.

The Recreational Therapist / Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (TRS) Game Master (GM) (TRSGM) will run regular role-playing game sessions with clients, at various client locations, typically in educational and therapeutic settings or other settings that have populations with special needs requirements. The TRSGM may need to teach new players how to play the applicable role-playing games.Our client demand is absolutely outstripping our capacity to keep up. We need 2-3 more qualified therapeutic recreation specialists that are also well trained as tabletop, electronic, and/or live-action role-playing game masters ASAP.

  • We work with a wide range of special needs populations in therapeutic and educational settings.
  • Will work with wide range of populations ranging from ages 2-17, 18-65, 65+, or special needs populations, educational settings, or therapeutic settings.
  • Our programs are heavily NCTRC Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) standards driven.
  • There are a lot of requirements we need you to meet for this distinctive and rewarding position, so please pay careful attention to the details.

Maximum Hours: Potential over time for full time up to 40 hours per week maximum. Potential to be promoted to full time based on employee qualifications, performance reviews, client contracts, and match to client needs.

Base Hours: During probationary period 0-4 hours per week (no guaranteed hours, but generally we will only hire you if you can begin working at least 4 hours per week).

  • Probationary period is 90 days, at the end of which, if your review numbers are favorable, you will gradually be provided opportunities to increase your hours up to 40 hours per week over time, depending on how well your skills and areas of focus fit various client demands.
  • Regular performance reviews every 6 months.

Payment Frequency: Initially once per month on the 5th of each month. Later twice per month. May become twice per month later

REQUIRED (NON-NEGOTIABLE):

  • Minimum 3 years TRS work experience (CTRS strongly preferred!)
  • Must be able to work in the greater Eastern Washington area, initially Spokane.
  • Must have own transportation.
  • Must pass thorough background check before work begins.
  • Minimum 5 years Game Master (GM) experience with tabletop role-playing games (RPG), see additional detailed requirements.

Optional but Preferred:

  • CTRS (strongly preferred).
  • 5+ years TRS experience
  • 10+ years TRPG GM experience
  • 3+ years LARP experience
  • Later optional locations across Northwest Inland Empire, and options for later greater Northwest (WA, ID, OR, MT), if desired.

Description: The TRS Game Master (TRS-GM) will run regular tabletop role-playing game sessions with clients, at various client locations. Will often work with a wide range of "at risk" and other populations requiring accessibility and adaptive considerations to help enable full participation. The GM1 may need to teach new players how to play the applicable role-playing game.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

The TRS GM will:

  • Work with various populations from ages 5 through 80+
  • Provide programs for populations from a wide range of disabilities and functioning levels
  • Provide services in a wide variety of locations, including long-term care facilities, schools, client sites, and others.
  • Provide accessible, inclusive, and adaptive considerations
  • Follow standard APIED/R standards
  • Follow NCTRC CTRS and RPG Therapeutics LLC standards of practice
  • Provide and gather player assessment forms and enter into journal system
  • Prepare to run tabletop role-playing game sessions (RPG).
  • Provide prepared player character sheets for players, including pregenerated when appropriate.
  • Prepare adventures in accordance with our Codes of Conduct, Professional Standards, Rules and Guidelines, Documentation, Established Protocols & Methodologies.
  • Provide and gather player assessment forms and enter into journal system
  • Complete GM assessment forms.
  • Address any group interpersonal issues, and maintain players compliance with Player Code of Conduct.
  • Provide prepared player character sheets for players, including pregenerated when appropriate, or else helping them create their own during "session 0".
  • Run RPG sessions for clients, including children, adults, and seniors, from a wide range of populations.
  • Run anywhere from 1-6 players per tabletop session (typically 3-5).
  • Optionally GM live-action role-playing (Larp) programs with 1-100 participants (with 1-10+ assistant facilitators).
  • Optionally facilitate cooperative music programs, such as drum circles, for up to 50 participants (with 1-3+ assistant facilitators).
  • Complete time sheets in timely fashion.
  • Comply with facilities standards
  • Optional remote sessions may be available, but TRSGM must be available locally at least 25% of the time.
  • Sessions will vary from 1-shots to ongoing campaigns recurring weekly or every-other week.
  • Complete/score participant assessment forms.

 

Additional Information:

  • RPG sessions typically last around 3 hours, with 30 minutes setup/preparation before session, and 30 minutes post-session clean up and documentation (typically 4 hours paid per session).
  • Cooperative music sessions typically last around 1.5-2 hours, with 30 minutes setup/preparation before session, and 30 minutes post session clean up and documentation (typically paid 3 hours per session).
  • Transportation costs are not provided, though reimbursement for miles to/from client sites (only) may be reimbursed through your own tax deductions with state and IRS, based on IRS guidelines. Options to carpool with other staff may also be an option, especially larger progras, and programs at more distant locations.

Education and Training

  • Prefer Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS), but will consider experienced TRS working toward CTRS.
  • Required: At least 1 year experience working with at-risk populations
  • Required: At least 2 years experience with therapeutic recreation / recreational therapy.
  • Require: English language fluency
  • Required minimum 5 years GM RPG experience.
  • Required minimum 3 years D&D 5th Edition DM experience

Optional but preferred:

  • Preferred: At least 1 year experience working with other special needs populations
  • Preferred: At least 1 year experience working with senior adult populations
  • Prefer American Sign Language (ASL) proficiency
  • Prefer Spanish language proficiency
  • Preferred: Working knowledge/experience with playing 1+ music instruments.
  • Preferred: Working knowledge/experience with music therapy.
  • Prefer Level 1 GM Certification (or current verifiable certification candidate, or RPG Research GM 1 Trainee diploma)
  • Prefer at least 5 years experience with other non-D&D game systems.
  • Prefer at least 3 years The One Ring RPG LM experience
  • Prefer at least 1 year No Thank You Evil Guide experience
  • Prefer at least 1 year experience with Doctor Who RPG GM experience
  • Prefer at least 1 year experience with Adventures in Middle-earth RPG DM experience
  • Required minimum 3 years D&D 5th Edition or BECMI DM experience

  • 20+ years experience as GM for RPG, and certified RPG Professional.
